Dr. Anup Chirayath has done his graduation in Medicine from BJ Medical College, Pune University, Maharashtra. He later did his Post graduate diploma in Ophthalmology again from Pune University. He secured a gold medal in the said examination. Subsequently he did his General Fellowship in Ophthalmology from the Aravind Eye Hospitals, Tamil Nadu. He became a Diplomate of the National Board of examinations, New Delhi in 1996. He continued as a Consultant in charge of the Vitreo- Retina Department of Aravind eye Hospital, Tirunelveli till 2002. In 2002 he was admitted as Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. After coming to Kerala he first served as the Chief Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Al Shifa Hospital Perinthalmanna, which is a 350 bed multispecialty Hospital .He later joined as the Managing Director of Ahalia Foundation Eye Hospital, Palakkad ,in which capacity he served till December 2008. He was instrumental in setting up this facility. While in Palakkad he was the President of the Palakkad Opthalmic Society for 4 consecutive years. In 2007 he helped conduct the Kerala State Ophthalmic conference as the Organizing secretary. Presently he is the Managing Director of i vision eye hospital, Thrissur. He has been selected as the President of the Thrissur District Ophthalmic society (TACO). In addition to his extensive clinical and surgical experience in cataract and refractive surgery including Phacoemulsification and Lasik and also Vitreoretinal diseases, he has also been actively involved in community ophthalmology at national and international level .During his tenure in Aravind, he was deputed as an Eye Care Consultant to work in collaboration with the International Eye Foundation and the WHO, in Africa. He helped upgrade the Lions Eye Hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi and provided consultancy to the eye hospitals in Blantyre, Malawi & Kitwe, Zambia .He also has the distinction of having conducted a Live Surgical workshop at the SAARC ophthalmology meet in Kathmandu, Nepal 1999.
